Mushfiqur Rahim double ton puts Bangladesh firmly in control

Mushfqur Rahim’s unbeaten double ton and two wickets from Nayeem Hasan put Bangladesh firmly in control at stumps on day three against Zimbabwe in Dhaka.

Rahim and Monimul Haque who made 132 were the massive building block for a mammoth first innings score. Their partnership was worth 222 against a largely blunt Zimbabwean attack.

Monimul would fall to Ainsely Ndlovu, caught and bowled after an innings that had 14 fours.

Ndlovu returned to take the wicket of Mohammad Mithun for 17, Regis Chakabva completing the catch.

That was only a slight reprieve because Rahim was joined by Liton Das for a joint effort of 111 runs. Das made 53.

Das had to go off the bowling of Sikandar Raza. It was Chakabva’s fifth catch of the innings.

When Bangladesh declared on 560/6, they had scored 320 runs on day three for the loss of three wickets.

Rahim’s 203 not out is his third double-ton. Bangladesh have five.

With a lead of 295 it became a match they could not lose.

And with the second and third balls of the first over, Hasan clean bowled Prince Masvaure and accounted for Donald Tiripano.

At stumps, Zimbabwe were 9/2 after 5 overs. Kevin Kasuza is on 8 and Brendan Taylor 1.

Play resumes at 5.30 am Zimbabwe time with the action live on SuperSport.
