Mugeri’s third half century in a row keeps Zimbabwe unbeaten

Zimbabwe captain Chipo Mugeri’s rich vein of form continued as she scored yet another half century as they beat Uganda by 59 runs in Women’s World T20 Africa region qualifier on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe are now the only unbeaten side in the tournament at the end of the round robin stage.

Mugeri’s 58 came off just 37 balls as she took the game to Uganda with Zimbabwe positing a massive 161/2 from their 20 overs. She now leads the run scorers with 172 from 4 innings at an average of 57.33.

That score also included a great knock of 47 from Modester Mupachikwa and Ashley Ndiraya with 12. Ashley Ndiraya’s 29 off 17 was part of an 81-run partnership with Mugeri.

Jospephine Nkomo was tight with her bowling conceding only twelve runs and one scalp in to her name.

Loreen Tshuma was instrumental and she returned 2-20 from her four overs.

Friday will see the fourth-fifth and second-third playoffs.

The final is set for Saturday, with the Zimbabwe facing the playoffs winners for the regional title.

The Africa winners will proceed to the global qualification tournament for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20, which will be hosted in the West Indies.
