Zimbabwe won by 7 wickets
Zimbabwe Women star batter Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano showed class-permanence has 71 helped her side to a seven-wicket win over Papiua New Guinea in the first of three one-dayers at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.
She had missed seven weeks of cricket, but was straight back in the team to showcase her talent as her side chased a modest 178 to win.
This is after the bowling effort had dismissed PNG for 177 in 48 overs, with Audrey Mazvishaya and Josephine Nkomo taking three wickets apiece.
Only captain Brenda Tau provided real resistance, scoring 72.
PNG looked in good stead after removing both openers cheaply, but a 127-run stand between Mugeri-Tiripano and skipper Mary-Anne Musonda steered the Zimbabwe ship on course.
Mugeri-Tirirpano had nine fours in her innings, and needed 105 balls, before she was forced to retire hurt.
By the Musonda had gotten her 59 runs of 82, seven of them fours before she was run out.
With the score on 172 for the loss of three, Josephine Nkomo and Kelis Ndhlovu found the task easy to pick up the win.
