Captain Chipo Mugeri scored another half century as Zimbabwe beat Kenya by 45 runs in a Women’s World T20 Africa regional qualifier match against Kenya on Tuesday.
Mugeri 59 off 48 was instrumental in Zimbabwe posting a mammoth 139-3 in their innings which also included a 35 from Modester Mupachikwa.
Kenya lost a wicket with no runs on the board as the in-form 20 year-old Josephine Nkomo removed Mary Mwangi early on. Esther Wachira fell victim to Loretta Sibanda.
After that Veronica Abuga anchored a half century partnership before Precious Marange took two quick wickets to stun the middle order.
After that it was a procession with Kenya making 94/9 after 20 overs.
Marange returned figures of 3/8 while Nkomo ended 3/11.
Zimbabwe now sit on top with a far superior net run rate to Uganda in second.
The two sides are in action against each other on Wednesday.
