Mavuta, Masakadza, Muzarabani efforts in vain as Zimbabwe go down to Ireland

Zimbabwe 166 all out in 42.5 overs (Wellington Masakadza 40, Ryan Burl 38, Clive Madande 33; Josh Little 6/36)

Ireland 170/6 in 40.1 overs (Curtis Campher 66, Lorcan Tucker 28; Blessing Muzarabani 2-23, Brandan Mavuta 2-37)

Ireland won by 4 wickets (59 balls left)

Josh Little’s incredible spell of bowling ensured that Ireland took a lead in the ODI series against Zimbabwe, inflicting a four-wicket loss on the hosts at Harare Sports Club on Friday.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza made a surprising decision to bat first and it quickly blew up in his face, with Zimbabwe reduced to 19 for the loss of four wickets.

Ryan Burl and Clive Madande combined for 45 before the latter departed on 33, out to Andy Balbirnie.

Wellington Masakadza joined Burl and they made 63.

Masakadza top-scored with 40, while Burl made 38.

Zimbabwe failed to bat out all their overs.

Richard Ngarava gave Zimbabwe the perfect start, castling Balbirnie with the first ball of the innings.

Captain Paul Stirling was next bowled by Blessing Muzarabani for 14,

Curtis Campher steered the innings, and had the able assistance of Harry Tector (21) and Lorcan Tucker (28).

Brandon Mavuta impressed with the ball, bowling tight lines and lengths and was worth the price on the ticket for is two wickets.

In the end, 166 was never enough and Ireland made their way to the total.

The final match of the series is on Sunday at the same venue, Zimbabwe need to win in order to share the trophy.
