Maponga Apologises But He Got Something Wrong

Zimbabwe’s first ever NFL player Stansly Maponga came attack from his countrymen over comments he made about about hunting to survive back hime.

Maponga was born in Zimbabwe and left at the age of 9.

In 2013 he became the first ever Zimbabwean to be drafted into the NFL, an elite high performance league in the United States of America.

Now in interview with Justin Felder, of FOX 5 Sports he said:

Back home, kids grow up a lot quicker because you have to go look for food and stuff like that. [I hunted for] mostly deer, squirrel. Also rabbits, too.

True to form, Zimbabweans on social media caught feelings cause they felt this was a put-down on Zimbabwe. Which if you ask us was a bit silly.

Many of us have been to kumusha and done kuteya mbeva or hunting that mhembwe.

Via his Instagram he issued an apology to Zimbabweans saying that he was not ready for the interview and that sort of thing. Alsosaid he didn’t know names for some of these animals that we hunt back home.

That he said that that kids do not hunt to survive is not true. Just visit the rural areas and see how many kids are having to head families and hunt for food. Even those who do not head families are having to take part in finding of food.

That, friends, is hunting for a living. Just because it is not happening in your life doesn’t mean it isn’t happening at all.
