Mambare Sends Zim Through To Quarter Finals

A solitary header from a battling Zimbabwe side put the national team into the quarter finals  of Orange African Nations Championship after a win over Burkina Faso at Athlone Stadium in Cape.

The side made history by becoming the first national representative side at senior level to make it out of the group stage of any continental competition.

It was Masimba Mambare in the 56th minute who snuck in on a cross that the Burkinabe should have covered to head the ball into the back of the net to the delight of a huge Zimbabwean contingent in the crowd.

It was the least the Warriors deserved in an encounter which like the match against Uganda, they created a lot of chances but simply failed to put  them away.

Ian Gorowa’s men now face Mali in the next round. Morocco who also qualified after beating Uganda will play Nigeria.
