Makusha wins preliminary, crashes out in round 1

Zimbabwean sprinter Ngoni Makusha won his preliminary heat and then crashed out in the first round proper at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

He ran a time of 10.32 seconds in preliminary hear early on to lead the race home.

There were three preliminary heats overall and the first three in each heat qualify to round one, along with the athlete who posts the next fastest time.

That placed him in heat 6 for round 1. There he ran 10.47 seconds where he finished eighth. South Africa’s Akani Simbine won that race with a time of 10.08 seconds.
