LOGAN CUP: Tuskers fight back after Chatara five-for

Tuskers produced a bowling fightback of their own after Tendai Chatara had led Mountaineers with a five wicket haul to dismiss the Bulawayo side for cheap on day one of a Logan Cup match at Harare Sports Club.

Having won the toss, Mountaineers put Tuskers in and bowled them out for 125 in 45.1 overs.

On a pitch that was doing a bit, Chatara took five for 41 from 18 overs bringing his ODI form to the fore. Wellington Masakadza was equally impressive taking four for 23 in 11 overs.

Only Tanunurwa Makoni (34), Nick Gubbins (25) and Taffy Mupariwa (24) were significant scorers. In effect, only one other batter got to double figures, Steve Chimhamhiwa with 10.

Mountaineers started with intent before captain Kevin Kasuza was caught at first slip off Ernest Masuku by Gubbins for 13.

Kudzai Sauramba did not stick around for long, departing for a 11-ball duck trapped leg before by Masuku.

Timycen Maruma made 13 before Chimhamhiwa accouted for him and Ben Compton was out for 42, to the same bowler.

At the close of play, Mountaineers were 93 for the loss of four wickets after 38. overs. Tony Munyonga with 13 and Joylord Gumbie on seven are the crease.

Play resumes for day two at the same venue on Tuesday.
