LOGAN CUP: Rhinos start well after Ervine ton sets up massive total

Rhinos had a good start to their chase after Tuskers set up a massive total on day three of a Logan Cup match at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday.

Takudzwanashe Kaitano (23) and Prince Masvuare (13) led Rhinos to 38 without loss at the end of play, still needing 357 to pick up an unlikely victory.

Tuskers’s total was spearheaded by Craig Ervine who notched up his 13th first class century. He was ably assisted by Brian Chari as the pair put on 182 for the third wicket. Chari was removed by Mavuta for 77, while Ryan Burl got the wicket of Ervine for 107.

When Mavuta got rid of Clive Madande for a duck, it looked as if Tuskers were falling apart.

Milton Shumba and Luke Jongwe then combined to push the lead towards 400. The declaration happened when Tuskers were 292 for the loss of five wickets. Shumba was on 44 and Jongwe 41.

Day four is on Wednesday at the same venue.
