Shane Snater took four wickets for 40 runs in 13 overs on the first day of the second round of Logan Cup matches, this one involving returnees Southern Rocks and Tuskers at Harare Sports Club.

Tuskers won the toss and elected to bat.

Captain Brian Chari’s awful run with the bat continued as he was trapped leg before by Blessing Muzarabani in the third over with Tuskers yet to get off the mark.

Craig Ervine was looking fluent on 15 off 11 balls which included three fours before he was removed caught by Sikandar Raza of Muzarabani.

Asha Jha was joined by the exciting Milton Shumba and the pair stood together for 40 runs. Shumba was the more adventurous one while Jha held up an end. The latter would depart for 14, Patrick Mambo having him caught behind by Richmond Mutumbami with the gloves.

A steady partnership between Shumba and Moor followed, which took Tuskers past lunch.

After Tuskers went past the 100 mark, a glut of wickets fell, all to Snater, as he threatened to wrap up the match in no time.

Three wickets fell for just two runs as Shumba departed for 43 caught by Innocent Kaia.

Two overs later, Moor (25) and Ainsley Ndlovu (0) were removed two balls apart, both bowled.

Ernest Masuku went the same way but he had amassed nine runs as they failed to cope with the consistent in-swingers.

Enter Luke Jongwe who played on the front foot and provided the onlty two sixes in the innings before rain stopped play.

By the time the rain stopped and the ground had become suitable for play, bad light came into play and stumps were called on 39 overs with Tuskers 148 for the loss of seven wickets.

Rhinos still to bat

Stumps Day One

Over at Harare Sports Club, there were only 12.5 overs of play possible after a wet outfield from overnight rain affected play between Eagles and Rhinos.

Even then, there was time for Brandon Mavuta, captaining the side, and Neville Madziva to take wickets.

Eagles were moving at a good rate, 4.64 per over when rain stopped play with their score on 58 for two.

At the crease were Gareth Chirawu on 34 and Wessly Madhevere on 4.
