LOGAN CUP: Mumba grabs five-for, but Tuskers score big

Rinos Carl Mumba grabbed five wickets but Tuskers put on a very competitive first innings total on the opening day of a Logan Cup match Harare Sports Club on Sunday.

Tuskers won the toss and chose to bat.

Tafara Chingwara got the first wicket, that of the precocious Tanunurwa Makoni bowled for six. The same fate became of Craig Ervine for seven.

Brian Chari then combined for a rebuild with Taffy Mupariwa, the pair putting on 88 for the fourth wicket. Mupariwa became Mumba’s first victim, departing for 52. Chari followed soon after on 54, Mumba again with he wicket.

Captain Brandon Mavuta then joined in on the wickets accounting for Milton Shumba, who made 26.

Another rebuild started, with the youthful Clive Madande and Luke Jongwe the crease, putting up 105 runs. Mumba returned for another wicket, that of Jongwe for 38.

Madande then fell painfully short of his second century, departing for 93.

The last two wickets yielded 60 runs, Ernest Masuku prominent with a quickfire 40 off 31 balls.

Tuskers would be bowled out for 347 from 87.2 overs.

Mumba took 4 for 72 and Chingwara three for 49.
