LOGAN CUP: Gritty Marumani leads Rocks fight

Tadiwanashe Marumani put on an uncharacteristically conservative batting display as Southern Rocks posted 222 for the loss of one wicket on the first day of a Logan Cup match at Old Hararians on Monday.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat against Alliance Health Eagles, Marumani, together with Innocent Kaia combined for an opening stand of 153.

Kaia was first to get to his half century off 108 balls. Marumani followed and made his maiden half century off 143 balls.

Kaia departed for 88, very well stumped by Shaun Handirisi off the bowling of Brad Evans.

Ben Curran then joined Marumani and the former made 42 and Marumani ended the day on 84.

The match resumes on Tuesday for day two at the same venue.
