Zimbabwe and Mozambique played out a goalless draw in their opening match of the Cosafa Cup in South Africa on Wednesday.
The last time these two sides met, which was in 2017, the Warriors ran out 4-0 winners, but were unable to produce the goods against a youthful Mozambique side.
Coach Zdravko Logarusic, was happy he did not lose but was unsatisfied by not winning, calling it a ‘fair result’. This is given that most of the Zimbabwe players had not been involved in competitive action much since 2019 due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
And it showed, because Mozambique had 13 shots at goal, to Zimbabwe’s nine. They showed fresh legs throughout the 90 minutes and will feel they lost out on their chance to not only get their maiden win against Zimbabwe, but to score in the competition.
Playing in transition football, Zimbabwe were not able to get the ball into the final third enough, forcing themselves into direct football at times.
Washington Arubi was brilliant in goal, and helped Zimbabwe to remain unbeaten in opening fixtures at Cosafa.
