Klusener steps down as Zimbabwe batting coach

Lance Klusener has stepped down as Zimbabwe men’s batting coach with immediate effect, it has been confirmed.

The decision which comes on the eve of the team’s participation in the T20 World Cup was reached at by mutual agreement, according to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC).

The apex body said Klusener’s decision, as informed by his agent was based on his desire to pursue global professional engagements, which will subsequently have an effect on his availability for national team commitments.

With the growth of the T20 leagues he is a sort-after figure. Klusener will serve as head coach of the Durban Super Giants in the inaugural SA20, which kicks off in January.

Commenting on the development, ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni said: “We are grateful to Lance for everything he has contributed during his time with us, including helping us to qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 which gets underway in Australia in a few days.

“Unfortunately, due to his pressing commitments elsewhere, he could not continue with us on a full-time basis and we agreed it was in the best interests of both parties to terminate his contract. We wish him the best as he pursues new endeavours.”

Klusener had rejoined the Zimbabwe technical team as Batting Coach in March this year, after he had previously served in the same position between 2016 and 2018.
