Islam, Hasan condemn Zimbabwe to innings defeat

The Bangladeshi spin pair of Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam condemned Zimbabwe to an innings and 106 runs defeat in the Only Test on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe were 9-2 coming into the fourth day. Kevin Kasuza did not stick around for long and he was gone for 10 off Islam.

Hasan having taken two the night before Hasan got Brendan Taylor for 17 as he top-edged one to Islam.

A 60-run partnership between Sikandar Raza and skipper Craig Ervine before the latter ran himself out when he was looking good to at least get a half-century. He was on 43 off 49.

Raza then fell while attempting to pull Islam only to get the toe of the bat. Mushfiqur Raheem gathered at midwicket. Raza was gone for 37.

Timycen Maruma came with some shots but wickets kept falling on the other end. When he fell for 41, he was Hasan’s second five-wicket haul in test cricket.

Soon after, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 189 in 57.3 overs.

In the end, it was clear that Zimbabwe missed the trio of skipper Sean Williams as well as the experienced frontline bowlers in Tendai Chatara and Kyle Jarvis. Also, the fact that going into this match, Five players had a combined total of nine test matches between the lot of them will not have helped the cause much. A sixth, Charlton Tshuma was on debut.

Nayeem Hasan, at 19 years old, has already played five tests.
