Harare Bolts won by 54 runs

Scottish batter George Munsey put on an absolute masterclass as he scored the first ever century in the history of the Zim Afro T10 tournament to propel Harare Bolts to a 54-run victory over Durban Wolves at Harare Sports Club on Thursday.

Another record was broken in the process as his amazing hundred, a feat almost unheard of in this format of cricket, helped his team to the competition’s highest ever total, 173 for two.

Even more remarkably, Munsey did not open but came in after the first wicket had gone down for 19 off 1.3 overs.

With Janishka Perera almost a sleeping partner, he tore into the bowling in a series of brilliant strokes, taking 26 off his first full over, from Yasir Shah.

He reached exactly 100 not out in the 10th over, having faced only 38 balls and hit 10 sixes and six fours.

The team total was the best of the tournament to date, 173 for two wickets, and set Durban Wolves a virtually impossible task.

They put a brave face on it and scored 76 in 4.4 overs before losing their second wicket, with Colin Munro trying to emulate Munsey by scoring 32 off 13 balls.

But they had to settle for a score of 119 for six wickets, with Richard Gleeson taking two wickets with successive deliveries in the sixth over.

Joburg Bangla Tigers won by 37 runs

Sikandar Raza and Hazratullah Zazai with the bat and George Linde with the ball were the heroes for Joburg Bangla Tigers in their 37-run victory over Bulawayo Brave Jaguars.

Tigers made a poor start when they lost their openers for only 20 runs on the board, but then Raza joined Zazai at the wicket and they batted out the rest of the 10 overs without being separated.

Zazai made 49 off 29 balls and Raza 51 off 21, with five sixes and three fours, and the total was 128 for two.

The Jaguars batters were quite unable to form a partnership, and their top scorer was Carlos Brathwaite with 18 as they struggled to 91 for nine wickets.

Linde took three top-order wickets for only nine runs in his two overs.

Dynamic fifties from Rassie van der Dussen and Avishka Fernando brought NYS Lagos a 42-run victory over Cape Town Samp Army.

They put on the best opening partnership of the tournament so far when they made 122 together in only 7.4 overs.

Van der Dussen’s well-known hitting brought him 51 off 21 balls, with five sixes and two fours, while Fernando matched him better than stroke for stroke, with six sixes and five fours in his 66 runs.

Both fell to Salman Irshad within three balls of each other in the eighth over, and the total was 149 for two.

Samp Army seemed to lose hope when they lost two wickets to Oshane Thomas in the second over for 15 runs, and they settled for a respectable defeat.

Brian Bennett carried his bat through the innings for 40 not out off 28 balls, while Jack Taylor made 37 off 18 balls, their total being 106 for three.
