Herentals relegated from Zim PSL after match-fixing verdict

Herentals have been found guilty of match-fixing and fined $300,000 by the Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

On top of that, they will be docked the three points they gained from their match against Black Rhinos on 19 October 2019 and relegated. They are said to have attempted to fix the match.

This means airforce side Chapungu will take their place in Zimbabwe’s top flight.

The fine is to be paid by 31 January 2020 and failure to do so will result in the club being banned from any and all football-related activity for 10 years.

Herentals official Oliver Chirenga was fined $20,000 and banned from all football activity for 10 years. He is also barred from watching any football or coming near any football stadium.

Rhinos manager Gift Kamuriwo was also fined $20,000, barred from all football activity with the same sanctions around attending football matches or being near stadia.

Both have their bans from 1 January 2020 and the said fines should be paid by 31 January 2020.

The sidebar is that we are happy that a heavy set of punishments have been handed out so as to send a clear warning to would-be fixers that the league takes the matter seriously
