Glitz, glamour and polo at the Carrick Wealth Ambassador’s Cup

The weather may have been harsh but Bushman’s Rock hosted the biggest ever crowd at the Carrick Wealth Ambassador’s Cup.

First, about the polo itself. Four teams played matches over two days, Rift Valley, Premier Auto, Econet Platinum and Manokore.

Econet Platinum and Premier Auto reached the final and the latter Econet Platinum emerged victorious, winning by 8-6 1/2 to lift the trophy.

And now to the glitz.

The heavy subscribed event had a slow start, mostly due the weather but quickly picked up. By lunchtime, however, there was a crowd watching the chukkas and digging into food accompanied by beverages of choice. The food excited the taste buds, The chicken at the buffet was particularly brilliant and the pork ribs at the braai were a delight.

We spotted the judges, stylist extraordinaire, Craig Zoowie, dressed like a king on a mission and Rumbidzai Takawira, the newsbae, regal in a flowing dress and ornaments to boot.

Were they not the judges, they were to a person, everyone’s pick for the RwandAir ticket to Cape Town prize. Those prizes went to Walter and Sandra, the latter standing out in multi-coloured printed cape.

Also spotted in attendance was rising media star Zororo Makamba, sports writer Chchi Sabeta, Zimabbwe Premier Soccer League Communications and Media Liason Officer Kudzai Bare, Titan Law boss Gerald Mlotshwa, Culture Shock trust and Listed company executive Nqobile Munzara and many more.

The music in the background was was rhytmic and set the occasion perfectly for the opulence, perfectly divined by the backdrop of the mountaineers and the river between.

And in all this, there was giving. The Carrick Wealth Ambassador’s Cup  donated $1,000, to St Joseph’s Home for boys. The organisation created a section targeting boys who can no longer stay in the home after they turn 18 by building a dormitory that houses them in their transition to adulthood.

In speaking after the event Bushman Rock’s Jonathan Passaportis said the organisation would look at growing the event and going more mainstream next year.

A special mention for, Maimba Mapuranga, ever the perfect MC, gift of the gab to toe and making sure that everything ran smoothly when on the mic. Always appropriate, classy and a credit to his profession.

And with the after party being, as the kids call it, lit, you won’t need a second invitation.

Carrick Wealth, which is a registered South African financial services provider specialising in South African and international financial planning. Carrick is also licensed in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Malawi, and holds three global licences in Mauritius, said it was proud to be associated with the event as title sponsor.

Other brands also working with the event included Econet Platinum, EcoCash, Manokore and Premier Motors, who also took the opportunity to showcase their new Jaguar ePace launched a few weeks ago at the residence of the British Ambassador to Zimbabwe during The Queen’s Birthday celebrations.

One thing we did have a wee bit of a problem with was the heating that took a while to get switched on. Also when we needed to connect to the WiFi there were too many blind spots which meant that some of the fun things we would have liked to stream could not be done because those areas did not have service.

Fun was had though and we can’t wait for next year.
