With that, Kwangwa becomes the first Zimbabwean to play in the prestigious competition and comes in to boost the Surrey defence.

She is expected in the UK shortly and after Covid-19 protocols will join up with Mikki Austin’s squad.

Kwangwa starred for Zimbabwe in their maiden Vitality World Cup 2019 run. The Gems would become the darling of the competition with their brave fight and enthusiastic support.

Austin wanted to give her a contract straight after that but visa requirements only allow only players from the top 12 teams to be signed up for the franchise teams.

When the Gems then moved into the top 12 she became eligible, ‘it was all systems go… to sign her’ according to Austin.
