One would have thought that after his man of the match performance for Punjab Kings against the Lucknow Super Giants, Zimbabwe star all rounder Sikandar Raza would have been a shoe-in for a start against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
But that is not what happened.
In the latest Indian Premier League (IPL) tie, he made way for English star Liam Livingstone, who started his first match of the current season.
Fans were not impressed and registered their disappointment.
“Sam Curran is potentially working as a bowler and not a allrounder to many batting failures. Raza is the only allrounder in the team and you drop him,” said one fan on Twitter.
“Where do you bench your last MoM? Awkward here ? Getting to know “new” colleagues today.,” wrote @kudazimbabwe.
“We won’t watch till Raza plays…iyo haisi secret,” said @sledgro_98.
“Punjab Kings don’t deserve to win today just for the fact that they dropped Sikandar Raza after his match-winning performance in the last encounter. He would have been ideal on this surface which kept on holding’, wrote @_FaridKhan.
@DesLiverpoolFC was baffled, saying, “@PunjabKingsIPL wow! 16 years, and it’s still the same nuisance. Players that do well won’t be played. Still can’t understand why Raza who won us the last match was dropped. In form players getting dropped. Management is something else. Just a filler team for IPL.”
So in general, people were not impressed. Some asked if there was a way which would see Livingstone and Raza in the same team.
It did not help that the batting largely failed as Punjab Kings lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by24 runs.
