Fans Dead As Football Violence Rocks Cairo

Reports from the Egyptian capital Cairo say multiple fans have died after police clashed with fans of giants Zamalek before a match on Sunday evening.

Police fired teargas into the crowd when fans tried to enter the match without paying resulting in the death of as many as 22 fans (according to the official fan page) with many more injured according to reports.

The fans are said to have died from suffocation and stampede.

Fans of the Ultras White Knights as Zamalek are called say the police simply shot teargas into an overcrowded area and used pellets on fans.

Sad day for African football.
