Efficient India Whitewash Woeful Zimbabwe

India completed a whitewash against a woeful Zimbabwe team in the third and final ODI of the Prayag Cup at Harare Sports Club.

Bar an 82 from Chamu Chibhabha Zimbabwe’s batting made for sorry reading as batsmen surrendered their wickets at regular intervals. Ther only a brief period of resistance  was early on when Chibhabha and Regis Chihakabva put together a 70-run partnership for the second wicket.

Zimbabwe put India in for the third time in the series and they soon had the tourists at 82-4. But soon enough the  Indians consolidated and a combination of first good running between the wickets and then some pinch hitting at the end kept the score building up.

It was particularly bad in the last 10 overs when Zimbabwe conceded 106. 50 of those runs were in the last 3.1 overs.

What made it all the more awful was captain Elton Chigumbura dropping a dolly to get rid of Man Of The Match Kedar Jadhav on 41. He went on to make his debut century (105) most of that with debutant Manish Pandy as the Indians amassed a total of 276-5.

At the end Zimbabwe could only capitulate to a lousy 193 all out in 43.2 overs.

For coach Dav Whatmore his record doesn’t look good. He has only one win as the coach of the Chevrons and that was against the UAE at the World Cup. The rest have been losses with one incomplete match due to rain in Pakistan in a recent tour.

Next up are the two T20s on 17 and 19 July again at Harare Sports Club.
