Zimbabwe Domestic T20 Cup defending champions Eagles almost succumbed to their second defeat of the season after they inched their way to a two-wicket victory over Rhinos at Old Hararians on Tuesday.

They looked like they were about to make it an easy win, needing just seven runs from the last over. Neville Madziva removed Tadiwanashe Marumani out for 75 off 48 balls.

Hamza Sajjad took a heave at the next ball and he departed for a golden duck.

Owen Muzondo then sent the next two balls to the boundary, to win with two balls to spare.

Earlier, Nyasha Mayavo scored an unbeaten 36 off just 29 as he helped his side to 164 for the loss of five wickets. His score was complimented bvy Antum Naqvi’s 29, Ryan Burl (27), Tarisai Musakanda (19) and Tashinga Musekiwa (29*)

It looked like it would be enough, but it ultimately was not.

Durham 174/5 in 20 overs (Colin Ackermann 52, Graham Clark 35; Jalat Khan 2-23, Dylan Hondo 2-26)

Southern Rocks 71/7 in 9 overs (Eddie Byrom 17, Roy Kaia 17; Oliver Gibson 3-12, Ben Raine 2-8)

Durham won by 16 runs (DLS Method – Match reduced to 9 overs – Target 88 runs)

The Durham County Cricket Club juggernaut continued to saunter in Harare, as they beat Southern Rocks by 16 runs in a rain-affected match at Harare Sports Club.

Durham won the toss and opted to bat first. After a slow start they got going, with Colin Ackermann adding to his impressive go two matches ago, with an impressive 52 off just 23 balls. That included three sixes and four fours.

That had been set up by a second-wicket partnership of 55 between Bas de Leede and Graham Clark.

Durham got to three figures at 14.1 overs and it looked as if the Rocks had held it back.

The next 50 runs came from 3.5 overs as the visitors turned imperious.

They ultimately made 174 for the loss give wickets.

Rocks, in their response, gave it a bit of a go, but when rain interrupted, they were down to 43 for the loss of two. Roy Kaia will have felt unlucky to be given out, trapped leg before, just as the heavens were about to open.

That meant that when play resumed, Rocks had to more than double their score in just 21 balls.

William Mashinge tried his best, but there was never a chance of a win.

Tuskers 110 in 19.5 overs (Sean Williams 38, Clive Madande 31; Salman Mirza 4-11, Victor Nyauchi, Tendai Chatara 2-21)

Mega Market Mountaineers 112/5 in 17.2 overs (Brian Bennett 25, Peter Moor 23; Charlton Tshuma 2-29, Sean Williams 1-13)
