Donata Katai wins her heat with personal best time

Zimbabwean swimming star Donata Katai has swum her personal best time to win her heat at the 2020 Olympics at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre.

She posted a time of 1:02.73 in the 100m backstroke.

Katai beats her previous time of 1:05.04.

Katai was one of the flagbearers for Zimbabwe at the opening ceremony and is the first black swimmer to represent her country at the Games.

Whether she ends up in the semis, which is probably unlikely, remains to be seen, but she will be delighted with her return, so far.
