Delighted Punjab Kings coach speaks on Raza signing

Sikandar Raza

A delighted Trevor Bayliss has reacted to the signing of Zimbabwe international Sikandar Raza to his Punjab Kings side for the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Raza was the second buy for the Kings and the coach was delighted to get him for so cheap at INR 50 Lakh or roughly about USD 60,000.

“Well, yeah, second buy Raza was a bit below what we expected, so again, very happy to have him on board,” said Bayliss to the IPL side’s media department.

As for what to expect, Bayliss was effusive in his praise, saying, “He brings some different skills that we haven’t got in the squad, so it is an exciting buy also.”9

Punjab have refreshed after a disappointing 2022 edition. Bayliss replaced Anil Kumble, Shikar Dhawan is the new captain. They paid a record fee for Sam Curran (son of the late former Zimbabwe player and coach Kevin Curran) and have the best T20 player on earth Jonny Bairstow on their cards. Raza will also rub shoulders with South African premium bowler Kagiso Rabada and the explosive Liam Livingstone.

Raza will become the fourth Zimbabwean to play in the IPL after Tatenda Taibu, Ray Price and Brendan Taylor.
