Christian Atsu found dead after Turkiye earthquake

Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu has been found dead under the rubble of his home, 12 days after the devasting earthquake which hit Tuekiye and Syria.

Atsu had been missing since the 6 February quake that caused the collapse of his apartment in Antakya, Hatay.

The midfielder had been plying his trade with Turkish top-flight club Hatayspor, who tweeted “There are no words to describe our sadness.We will not forget you, Atsu. Peace be upon you, beautiful person.”

The news of Astu’sdeath was confirmed by his agent.

In the English Premier League, he turned out for Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton.

He also represented Ghana at multiple Africa Cup of Nations editions and the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

Atsu was 31.
