Chivanga, Nyauchi claim three apiece but Shaheens in driver’s seat

Day 2 – Stumps: Pakistan Shaheens lead by 298 runs

Victor Nyauchi and Tanaka Chivanga took three wickets each for Zimbabwe A on the second day of their second four-day match against Pakistan Shaheens at Mutare Sports Club on Thursday, but in the main it was a long hard toil in the field for the home side.

The tourists finished with 461 runs to their account for eight wickets in reply to the Zimbabwe A score of 163.

Pakistan Shaheens had started the day with 115 on the board for the loss of one wicket, and at the crease were the two prolific century-makers of the first match, Muhammad Hurraira on 60 and Omair Yousuf on 19.

They were unable to repeat such heroics this time round, though.

Chivanga struck quickly, having Hurraira caught on the leg side by Roy Kaia for 64, while in his next over Kamran Ghulam was caught by Brandon Mavuta in the slips for two – 133 for three.

Yousuf was joined by Hussain Talat and they took the score to 217 before Yousuf, who had looked ready for another century, was to his surprise bowled out playing forward to Kaia, the ball coming in sharply to hit the off stump.

Talat enjoyed another good partnership with Qasim Akram until Nyauchi returned to remove them both in successive overs.

Talat was the first to go for 74, and then Akram was also caught for 36 – 293 for six.

The first six were out, but there was more struggle for the bowlers to come, as Haseebullah Khan, the wicket-keeper, showed fine batting form, and his next partner, Aamer Jamal, scored 35 to take the score to 376 before he was out.

Khan was now hitting the ball very well, and with Mehran Mumtaz took the score past 400. Khan reached his century and was still going strong at the close with 111 not out, his overnight partner being Mohammad on eight, and the score 461 for eight wickets.
