As expected, Walter Chawagura has been confirmed as the substantive coach for the Zimbabwe Women national cricket team.

Chawaguta had been serving in an interim capacity after the departure of Gary Brent at the end of last year.

The news was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) board after their meeting on Saturday.

“During the meeting, the Board also confirmed Walter Chawaguta as the substantive Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Senior Women’s National Team, while Prosper Utseya’s resignation from his position as Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Under-19 Men’s National Team was accepted,” a communication said.

As for the men’s team, the job will be advertised. So too that for the Under-19 job.

For Chaawaguta, he has a busy period, with a trip to India for camp and some practice matches, followed for the African Games, then the visit of Papua New Guinea, before the ladies jet off to the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup Global Qualifier 2024 in April.
