Andrew Moore, Carrick Wealth Zimbabwe Manager: Wealth Management and Advisory, said Carrick was very proud to be the title sponsor of the Tournament. “The Carrick Ambassadors Cup Polo Tournament is more than a hard-fought battle on the field watched by a rousing and appreciative audience,” he said. “Our support of the Cup is also forms part of Carrick’s on-going corporate social initiative strategy to help improve the lives of those who through force of circumstance have been marginalised or disadvantaged.”

Moore explained that 200 VIP invitation-only tickets would be on sale for the Carrick Ambassadors Cup Polo Tournament. “As a part of Carrick’s corporate social initiative, a portion of the funds raised by the Tournament ticket sales will be donated to the St Joseph’s Home for Boys in Harare, which looks after more than 50 orphaned and abandoned children under the age of 18,” he said. He added that some of the boys would be participating in the event, working in the kitchen, or as waiters, or on the field helping the ball boys when goals are scored.
“We know that some of the boys were offered jobs after last year’s Tournament and this can be credited to the raised profile of St Joseph’s and the good work that it is doing,” said Moore.

Moore pointed out that St Joseph’s has been in existence for almost 90 years and that the company was now looking at ways to apply Carrick Wealth’s principles of sustainable philanthropy to assist the orphanage into the future.

What started out some two thousand years back as a training exercise for the Shah of Persia’s (today’s Iran) elite cavalry force, polo is today an exhilarating team sport that is growing in popularity globally and in Zimbabwe. Once referred to as the “Gentleman’s Sport, the game has undergone many changes and is no longer the confined to the elite fields of male aristocracy. It now comprises people from all walks-of-life with females making up more than 25% of the players globally, and is the only co-ed sport played at a professional level.

Bushman Rock Safaris Managing Director Jonathan Passaportis said that the Bushman Rock Polo Club has made every effort to encourage people to get involved and play the game. Carrick’s sponsorship he said would contribute enormously to its development and expansion. He said that Polo Club, part of the Bushman Rock Estate, nestled between vineyards and a wildlife conservation area, was started more than five year’s ago. Today it provides riding and polo lessons and has recently added a horseback safari to its list of offerings.

Zimbabwean-born Craig Featherby, Chief Executive Officer of Carrick Wealth, said the nature of the game aligned with Carrick’s vision. “Polo is said to be one of the world’s oldest team sports,” said Featherby, “and at Carrick we are great believers in teamwork. Our wealth managers and clients form part of a team that create winning collaborations to tackle the world of personal financial and wealth management.”

The Carrick Ambassadors Cup Polo Tournament is billed as the most popular social highlight of the year and favoured by Zimbabwe’s A-List. The British Ambassador to Zimbabwe Catriona Laing will again attend this year’s event.

“We are looking forward to want an exciting Tournament, great polo, and a hugely satisfied audience,” said Featherby. “And, we want to ensure that the benefits of this event reaches beyond the boundaries of the playing field by ensuring that the boys of St Joseph’s are helped towards building a better life for themselves.”
