Caf, SRC at standoff after African body demands Kamambo reinstatement

There is a standoff between the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) and the Confederation of African Football (Caf) after the latter told the former to reinstate suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) president Felton Kamambo.

SRC chairperson Gerald Mlotshwa released a statement in which he

“I find it incredible that Caf continues to insist that we reinstate fraudsters and sexual predators, who have cases pending before the courts in Zimbabwe. Caf appears to think that Fifa statues rule supreme over Zimbabwe law,” Mlotshwa said in a statement.

Mlotshwa also had choice words for had some choice words for Caf Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba.

“I was extremely concerned when Vernon referred to the minister and I as ‘you Africans’ in a derogatory tone of voice. I recorded the entire conversation. I now know why Fifa find it difficult to deal conclusively with corruption, racism and sexual harassment in football. It’s a part of their culture. That much is obvious,” he said.

Mosengo-Omba is a Swiss national who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and is seen as Fifa’s point man in Africa.

He is also known for being very brutal when it comes to communication.

Fifa told SRC to reinstate Kamambo by 3 January 2022 or face the expulsion of Zimbabwe. SRC has said it is willing to accept a suspension in order to clean up the game.

Kamambo has since asked Fifa to suspend Zimbabwe.

Suspension, it seems, is getting closer.
