Burl, Mutumbami blunt Lamichhane blitz as Zimbabwe begin post-Masakadza era with win

Ryan Burl and Richmond Mutumbami’s 69 run sixth-wicket partnership kicked off life after the retired Hamilton Masakadza with a five-wicket win over Nepal in the Singapore triangular series.

Precocious spinner Sandeep Lamichhane rattled the Zimbabwe innings early when he removed Regis Chakabva, Tino Mutombodzi and captain Sean William’s for ducks. A bloody nose seemed on the cards.

Brian Chari on the other end made a watchful 19 before being run out while Timycen Maruma’s 12 came off 21 balls.

The Burl-Mutumbami act followed and after steadying the ship went after bowlers and secured the victory with 11 balls remaining. Burl was 40 off 36 balls while Mutumbami 41 from 28 balls, both unbeaten.

Earlier, Williams took 2-19 as Zimbabwe restricted Nepal to 132-6 in their 20 overs.

Mutumbami was named player of the match.
