Boxing authorities engage government to save Manyuchi belts

The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board have engaged the government, to try and make sure Charles Manyuchi gets to defend his belts by the mandatory date of 4 July 2021.

Manyuchi was set to fight Muhammad Sebyala, on the 3 July 2021, in Masvingo. A government ban on all sporting activitieshas however left that hanging and he could find himself in a spot of bother.

Manyuchi was billed to defend the World Boxing Federation (WBF) world middle weight title and unify it with two new belts namely, the World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) and World Professional Boxing Federation belts.

The Sport and Recreation Commission has said it is engaging relevant authorities, to see what can be done to get waivers.

Zimbabwe Cricket have also lodged an appeal to have the current four day match in involving their A side and that of South Africa go ahead. Bangladesh are due to arrive this week for their tour of Zimbabwe, which includes an ICC World Cup Qualifying series for the 2023 edition.
