Former Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura is among players from his country who have had their names put up for the overseas draft in the Big Bash League (BBL).

The former all-rounder is an unexpected inclusion as he has not really been active since he retired from the international game. He has played some club and provincial cricket so he has not been out of it.

Another former national team player is paceman Chris Mpofu. He has been player-coach at Rhinos and while not official retired from international cricket, he has not been considered for national call-up.

Ryan Burl is also on the list along with Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava from the current national team setup.

Muzarabani, who has signed for the new UAE ILT20 League will be available early on before darting off to the Middle East, should the BBL pick him.

That also opens up possibilities that replacements may be needed in the BBL.

UK-based Eddie Byrom and Tawanda Muyeye, Blessing Muzarabani are listed as Zimbabweans.

Byrom has played for the Zimbabwe under-19 team and it is believed he may be convinced to turn out for the Chevrons.

Muyeye has fully excluded himself from ever turning out for Zimbabwe, focusing his energy on playing for England.

The draft will take place shortly on 28 August 2022, after the conclusion of Australia’s first ODI against Zimbabwe.

332 foreign players placed their names in the ring.
