After setting a target of 477 for the hosts, Bangladesh took three wickets, including that of skipper Brendan Taylor, for 140 at the close of play. That left Zimbabwe still needing 337 to win on a full final day of play.

Taylor came in after Taskin Ahmed took the wicket of Milton Shumba for 11, an edge to slip. He played colourful shots all over the ground and looked good for a century. He got to his 50 in quick-time, off 33 balls, equaling the record set by Andy Blignaut in tests for Zimbabwe, set in 2002.

By contrast, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, on the other hand, did not bother he scorers until his 39th ball faced to get off the mark. When Taylor departed, chipping one back to Mehidy Hasan Mirza for 92, Kaitano had faced 80, scoring just two. He had even been dropped off a loose shot off Shakib Al Hasan by Ebadot Hossain.

Kaitano would eventually got go for seven, trapped leg before by Shakib.

At stumps, Dion Myers were Din Myers (18) and Donald Tiripano (7).

Earlier, Myers and Taylor dropped two sitters, as Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto carved their ways to unbeaten figures of 115 and 117 respectively.

That allowed Bangladesh to declare on 284 for the loss of one wicket just before tea. The one man to depart was Saif Hassan, a victim claimed by Richard Ngarava, while he was on 43. Myers took the catch, a sharp one that needed some doing.

Sunday is when play resumes for the final day. Zimbabwe will not fancy their chances of winning unless they put on a world record challenge. Batting for three sessions with seven wickets will be a big ask too, as the ball is beginning to do a bit now.
