Zimbabwe cricket head coach Lalchand Rajput has backed precocious youngster Wessly Madhevere to come good, calling the form in the current multi-format series against Afghanistan a phase.
“He’s going through a lean phase but definitely, we are trying to, you know, be positive with him because as it is his confidence is low, so we don’t want put more burden on him,” Rajput told the media after his side’s 48 run loss in the first T20I on Wednesday.
Rajput added that they were focusing backing him to be confident and back him up because he was sure Madhevere would come back.
Madhevere failed to score a single run in four innings of the test series. After that he scored only two in the first T20I and then dropped a simple catch in the same match.
In the same press conference, Rajput added that he expected his side to be more competitive in the second T20I.
