Afghanistan’s proposed tour of Zimbabwe called off

Afghanistan’s proposed tour of Zimbabwe for five one-day international matches in April has failed to materialise, a statement from Zimbabwe Cricket has said.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had requested ZC to host the series in Harare to help their team prepare for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England.

Although the two boards had agreed to share the tour expenses, the prohibitive costs of broadcasting the matches live on television – which the ACB was insisting on – unfortunately derailed the proposed series.

Zimbabwe can ill-afford the cost of broadcasting after restrictions were placed on it by the International Cricket Council.

The statement by ZC is silent on the tour by the United Arab Emirates which we are made to believe will go ahead as scheduled. The dates for it have however not been revealed.
