About Magaya playing in the Warriors legends match…

So the match between the Warriors legends and the former Barcelona stars took place at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday.

A packed stadium witnessed the likes of Rivaldo, Patrick Kluivert, Edgar Davids, Peter Ndlovu, Ronald Sibanda, Madinda Ndlovu and more.

Not expected by many was the inclusion of prominent preacher and businessman Walter Magaya who had a cameo in the second half.

Having never played for the national team of course that raised the ire of many who called it a joke and had choice words for the custodians of the national game, the Zimbabwe Football Association. This was also in the face of the controversial exclusion of players such as the 31 times capped Alois Bunjira.

But given that this was an exhibition match, was it really that deep? This is essentially like being mad about the time when Donald Trump made an appearance on WWE and saying the purity of what really is an exhibition sport was lost.

Given his contribution to the game financially and other perceived resources (people enjoy being prayed for) an argument could be made for him being a ‘legend’ of sorts.

Does it worry us that someone can buy their way into history books? Yes and no. Yes because we like the sanctity of things to remain. And no because whatever happens even after the purchase, when it comes to things that actually mattered, noone can claim the actual history.

A fluff piece moment it is really beyond anything. It really isn’t that deep. It’s just fun really.
