3 things we learned from Zimbabwe’s DRC matches

Zimbabwe picked up four points home and away in the Africa Cup of Nations Group G.

Having won 2-1 in DRC, Zimbabwe were held 1-1 at home although they could have counted themselves unlucky to not have won the match.

This has left Zimbabwe top of the log by three points with two matches to go.

Here are things we have learnt:

  1. Mhofu has evolved: Zimbabwe attack more than expected. They use more guile and actually move quickly when it comes defensive to attacking phases. Sunday Chidzambwa has also moulded a very confident outfit which goes into a match expecting to win
  2. Tendayi Darikwa was a missing piece: Alec Mudimu has been a massive find but Tendayi Darikwa oozed class in both matches. Assured, strong and alert, he brought further calm and control to the defence.
  3. We need someone to step up when Musona is missing: Captain Knowledge Musona was suspended after picking a two yellow cards. And you could see that he was missing as the attack lacked his guile and edge. Knox Mutizwa’s strike was chalked off, true, especially as there did not seem to be an offside offence but you get the feeling that if some of the other chances had fallen to Musona.

It looks like qualification is now a real possibility and the nation expects.
