Getting married leads to longer life for men – study

Happy wife, happy life, the saying has always said.

It turns out getting married will get men to live just a little longer than those who choose to remain single, a study has shown.

This is the finding of the  American College of Cardiology.

First of all, they found that men who were not married were likely to die within fives years of being diagnosed with heart disease.

Data was used from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, an existing study of 6,800 American adults between 45 and 84 years old.

Lifelong bachelors were a whole 2.2 times likely to dies as their married counterparts. A lot folks.

It gets crazier. Even widowed and divorced men showed no difference from married men. No increased risk. Just the single men.

And women had no increased risk, whether married or single.

Why is not clear, but isolation does not help one’s health. Social interaction is important. Add to that, having someone gives you a reason to fight. Also add that they will encourage you to take care of yourself too.

Men have been known to complain about their wives monitoring their diet, exercise, and alcohol intake. As it turns out, that is what helps you to live longer.

Key factor though is that it has to be a happy marriage. A terrible one can’t be good for one’s health, no matter the obsession with staying married.

It also helps if she doesn’t kill you.

“As clinicians, we need to think about our patients not just in terms of their medical risk factors, but also the context of their life,” Katarina Leyba, MD, a resident physician at the University of Colorado and the study’s lead author.said.

Now to go and tell the boss to get married, or else…
