Zimbabwe’s cabinet has said the modalities to open up airports to international travel are being worked on at present.
The idea is to first open up to domestic flights, much the same way South Africa is doing.
Then the international flights will be allowed so as to give a boost for tourism which was hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown and lockout.
The announcement was made by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services minister Monica Mutsvangwa after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Tourism minister Mangaliso Ndlovu added that the first airport to be opened will be Victoria Falls International Airport while Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport will be readied too.
At present Zimbabwe is accepting flights but they are haphazard.
Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and Namibia are the African countries which have opened their airports to international travel.
