Zimbabwe is to allow gambling online after it said it will amend its Lotteries and Gaming Act.

This was confirmed in Post Cabinet Briefing on Tuesday held by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa.

“Cabinet received and approved the amendment of the Lotteries and Gaming Act, which is intended to improve the collection of revenue from the gaming industry,” said Mutsvangwa.

“The nation is being informed that the Lotteries and Gaming Board (LGB) is operating under an act that came into force in 1998,” continued Mutsvangwa. ” Although the act was amended twice, that is in 2001 and 2002, it has become inadequate in addressing evolving trends within the gambling space, consistent with global growth of online gambling.”

Essential amendments to the act include provisions allowing online gaming, and compelling operators to incorporate technologies which allow LGB systems to monitor activity.

Government says it losing out on money due to leakages and legisative inadequacies.

The LGB has already started receiving presentations from companies.
