It’s coming.

The Zimbabwe government has confirmed that is approved the Criminal Law(Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill, 2022.

This was said by Acting Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu at a post-cabinet briefing on Tuesday

“The bill enhances the provisions of the Criminal Law Code in matters relating to the country’s sovereignty through the criminalization of conduct that undermines Zimbabwe’s sovereignty, dignity, independence and national interests,” Ndlovu was quoted as saying.

Now, this is not clear if this has any relation to the unpopular Private Volunteer Organisations Bill. That Bill targets organisatons in the sector specifically, but one wonders if this is a way of moving ahead with some of those recommendations, putting them in an existing law.

As the Minister did not provide context, it is not clear which provisions are ‘enhanced’ by this new bill.

In addition, it expands the definition of ‘dangerous drugs’ and also amends the elements which form the crime of abuse of public office.

We will be waiting with bated breath.
