Zimbabwe lifts more lockdown restrictions and this is what you need to know about rent, travel, informal sector

Zimbabwe president Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced a relaxation of the current Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

In an address the main things were

  • The rent moratorium has ended. Outstanding arrears are to be settled over six months without interest. So in essence your landlord cannot demand the full amount in arrears tomorrow.
  • The informal sector is to open after registration and compliance with COVID-19 guidelines
  • Churches can start operating but with no more than 50 people. Social distancing and other protocols must be applied.
  • Travel is permitted but urged to be only for when necessary

While Zimbabwe has seen a sharp increase in positive infections an overwhelming majority of them are those of returnees in quarantine.
