Zimbabwe government announces evacuation plan for residents in Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Zimbabwe has announced its position on evacuation of its citizens, particularly students from the European hotspot of Ukraine.

In a statement, the Ministry said, “Government wishes to assure parents with students in Ukraine that they should not worry. The Government is going to pay for return tickets for all the students currently being evacuated from Ukraine to Zimbabwe.”

The government further added that the Embassy in Germany was responsible for making sure everyone was taken care of.

“All the students currently in Ukraine are urged to cross over to Poland and they will be assisted from there,” the statement added. “Our Embassy in Germany is making all concerted efforts to make sure that our students are brought home safely.”

It is not clear how many Zimbabweans are in Ukraine (some sources say 256) but it is an important destination for education.

Russia commenced military operations against Ukraine this past week.
