The Zimbabwe government has announced the new price for the coveted passport.
The new price is the ZWL equivalent of USD60 for the ordinary passport and USD200 for the three-day one. The emergency one-day passport remains at USD315. The ZWL equivalent is at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe auction rate.
The announcement was made by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvanga after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
This comes as Zimbabwe has a backlog of 256,000 passports affecting locals and those in the diaspora.
While Zimbabwe has the capacity to produce 8,000 passports per day, personalisation capacity is at 2,500 while quality assurance sits at 2,000.
Zimbabwe’s treasury says it is putting USD4.5 million into new machinery and other products to run interrupted until the backlog is cleared.
