A Zimbabwean woman has died in a Kenyan prison while going through an epic deportation ordeal.
Agnes Galawu Nemakonde was imprisoned at Kenya’s Lang’ata Women’s Prison where she fell ill and was taken to hospital.
Her lawyer then asked to have her released but refused to reveal what was wrong with her. She was denied the request. She then went on a hunger strike at Lang’ata.
The United Nations High Commission for Refugees had offered to facilitate her stay in the country but her conduct apparently made that impossible.
Nemakonde was deported from Scotland last year and since then, has been detained in Zimbabwe, Malawi, South Africa and Kenya.
