Zambia’s government has reiterated its position on homosexuality after saying that it would not afford gays rights because it is a Christian nation.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Gabriel Namulambe also noted that the preamble of the Zambian Constitution states that Zambia was declared a Christian Nation and it will remain as such, according to the Zambia Daily Mail.
Namalumbe was speaking to a delegation led by United States of America Deputy Chief of Mission David Young when he stated that his government would seek to defend its constitution. He also saidthe West shoudl respect Zambia’s position on matters of this sort.
The statement is the latest in a position that a lot of African countries hold in as far as gay rights are concerned.
There are countries such as Uganda which outrightly ban homosexuality while some merely effect bans on marriage between gay people.
