Zimbabwe is working to extend a deal with South Africa’s Eskom to continue importing power.
Harare struck a one-year deal with Pretoria in January last year to import 300MW after Kariba’s capacity dropped from 750MW to 250MW.
Minister of Energy and Power Development Samuel Undenge told the media that Eskom and state power utility Zesa Holdings were still in discussions on the deal:
I don’t want load sheddingto return and we have been assured of continued support from Eskom so that we continue to have the country supplied with power.
We will be keeping an eye on this.
