WBC Hands Chisora An Indefinite Suspension

Controversial boxer, Dereck Chisora has been suspended indefinitely by the World Boxing Council for his behaviour before and after his fight with Vitali Klitschko.

The WBC referred to Chisora’s behaviour as “one of the worst behaviours ever by a professional”.

The body has also told 28 year-old Chisora to undergo anger management treatment before it even considers lifting the ban.

Chisora slapped Vitali in a fight weigh-in, spat in brother Wladimir’s face in the ring and then was involved in a brawl after the match with David Hayes. He was later arrested for that brawl and for comments he made during the press conference. Chisora later apologised.

Chisora has also been struck of the WBC rankings.

As it stands his troubles could get worse. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) who hold his license could still suspend him. His hearing is on 14 March. He could of course leave the country but other license holders would probably support their decision.

We can’t say we are surprised as we have always found his behaviour a disgrace to sport in general, going beyond the boxing world. We were appalled and we were happy that he distanced himself from the Zimbabwe flag when he fought.

For his sake we hope he learns from all of this otherwise he won’t be getting back into that ring. At 28, he doesn’t have that much time.
